Theatre by the Lake - Keswick - The Lake District

The building is normally open to the public every day from 9.30am until after the evening performance. On non-performance days the Tickets & Information Office remains open until 8.00pm, but the other public areas of the building are usually closed at 5.00pm.

Admission to the Circle and Friends' Galleries is free. The galleries are open every day from 9.30am.

Patrons should note that the gallery spaces are occasionally closed to the public. Please check in advance with Tickets and Information on 017687 74411 if you only have one opportunity to visit an exhibition.

Please note that the Bar and Cafe will be closed from Monday 14th January and will not reopen again until Thursday 7th February. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Our Coffee Shop is open daily, serving hot and cold snacks and refreshments, including a range of Fairtrade products and locally sourced ingredients. Situated on the first floor, with views to the Lake and regular art exhibitions, this is the ideal place for a mid-morning coffee, lunch or a light meal. Open every day until the start of the performance or until 5pm on non-performance days. For cafe enquiries please call 017687 81102.

Our excellent facilities, including our Main House, Studio and meeting room, are available to hire for conferences, exhibitions, meetings, corporate entertaining and rehearsals.

Conference Spaces
Set in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, Theatre by the Lake can offer an idyllic location for your event. Together with our excellent conference facilities we are also able to provide extensive technical support to complement your event.

Meeting Room
Theatre by the Lake is able to offer a number of meeting room spaces suitable for, amongst other things, private business meetings, seminars, workshops. We supply a range of catering facilities from buffets to lighter refreshments.

Gain an insight into what happens behind-the-scenes at England's newest repertory theatre. Theatre staff will guide you on a tour of backstage areas on selected mornings (please see programme for dates). Tours cost £3 per person and can accomodate up to 20 people. Tickets should be booked in advance through Tickets and Information on 017687 74411. Additional tours for groups can often be arranged, subject to the performance timetable. The pay and display car park adjacent to the theatre is owned and monitored by Allerdale Borough Council. If you are planning to use this car park, please allow plenty of time to park as it can become very busy, especially during the daytime and in the summer. This may affect you if you are attending a matinée performance or another daytime event at the theatre. We regret that Theatre by the Lake cannot give change for the car park. Currently there is no charge for cars and coaches after 7.00pm.

Smoking, photography and recording are not permitted in the auditorium. Please ensure all mobile phones, pagers and wrist-watch alarms are switched off when you are in the auditorium. Performance starting times vary. Please read your tickets carefully as it may not be possible to admit latecomers.

Theatre by the Lake has wheelchair spaces in both auditoria, adapted toilets on each floor and lift and flat floor access to all areas. Lakeside car park, immediately adjacent to the theatre, has reserved spaces for wheelchair users. A wheelchair is available for transferring patrons from the car park to the theatre. Guide dogs are welcome in all areas of the building.

Touch Tours
Touch tours of the set (for Blind and partially-sighted patrons) are available one hour before most performances. Contact Tickets and Information for further details.

Sign Language
BSL-interpreted performances take place for some Theatre by the Lake Productions. Contact Tickets and Information on 017687 74411 for details.

Hard of Hearing
The Tickets and Information area, the Studio and rows A-G of the Main House stalls are fitted with an induction loop. Discreet infra-red hearing enhancement headsets are available for use in the Main House. Please note, the infra-red induction loop system cannot be used for sound amplification during an Audio Described Performance.

Audio Description
Audio-Described performances (for Blind and partially-sighted patrons) take place for some Theatre by the Lake Productions. Contact Tickets and Information on 017687 74411 for details. Touch tours of the set are available one hour before each Audio-Described performance.
