New Directions – New Opportunities
Theatre by the Lake offers more than just the opportunity to see live performances in a purpose-built theatre. Through our New Directions programme our professional drama development team gives people a chance to tell their own stories, develop their creative talents, learn about theatre and to take part in performances. Offering unique and different kinds of opportunities, some programmes of work are open to all and others are organised for special groups in education and community settings.

Storytree – All About You

Storytree visits communities to make and tell stories with groups of people ranging from pre-school children and their parents to senior citizens. This is a totally new venture in creativity – a unique fusion of drama, music, design, puppetry and your own imagination. Participation – Get Involved

Theatre by the Lake offers opportunities to get involved in creating theatre. These include the chance to take part in productions, create and write new pieces of work and we encourage all ages and sectors of the community throughout Cumbria to get involved.

Education – Taking it Further

The New Directions team offers a wide range of educational opportunities, some open to all students and others contributing to the work of individual schools, colleges and university courses.

Learn at Theatre by the Lake.

This Spring, Theatre by the Lake presents an intriguing 'pairing' of plays - George Farquhar's Restoration comedy, The Recruiting Officer and Timberlake Wertenbaker' Our Country's Good. To accompany the plays and for the fist time ever, we're offering FREE, play-based workshops led by the Theatre's Education Officer and specialist theatre staff.
