Summer Young Company is Theatre by the Lake's Summer School in which young people work alongside a professional director to make a play over a week-long series of fun and practical sessions with a showing at the end of each week for friends and family to enjoy.
It's an opportunity for young people to make new friends, grow in confidence and develop new skills, whilst learning about performance in a working theatre alongside industry professionals. Above all, it's about being creative and having fun.
Who can take part? Anyone aged between 7 and 18 can take part, regardless of experience. The company will be split into two age groups: 7 to 12 yrs old and 13 to 18 yrs old.
When and what?
Monday 6 to Friday 10 August, 9:30am to 3:30pm, ages 7 – 12yrs
The younger group will be taking the themes around TBTL's Christmas show Beauty & the Beast
as a starting point, from which they will then delve into the world of fairytales and adventure to create their final piece.
Monday 13 to Friday 17 August, 9:30 am to 3:30pm, ages 13 – 18yrs
The older group will be exploring themes of identity, prejudice and belonging in devising their piece of drama.
Venue: The project takes place at TBTL
Staff: Full supervision is provided during scheduled rehearsals. All staff are DBS checked.
Cost: £110 per participant for the week.
Food: You will need to bring a packed lunch, snacks and water each day; no refreshments other than tap water are provided. There is a café on site to purchase food.
