Mary studied Theatre at the Philosophy Department of the University of Athens and Music at the National Conservatoire of Greece. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck, University of London. In Athens she worked as an actress, performed as a singer and freelanced as a coach for actors and singers.
Mary chose to come to TBTL as a Trainee Director in 2007. She was Resident Director between 2009-2011 directing exciting plays and working closely as Assistant Director with her mentor Ian Forrest on eleven shows.
Her work as a freelance included assisting Alan Ayckbourn, teaching, delivering workshops and directing shows for Universities and acclaimed Drama Schools.
Mary was Associate Director at Theatre by the Lake between 2013-2016. Directing credits include: Jordan, Blackbird, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, A Doll’s House, An Inspector Calls, Dancing at Lughnasa, Dracula, Old Times, Peter Pan (co-director), Suddenly Last Summer, Mr Paradise, the world première of The Lady Of The Lake and The Snow Queen.
Mary is really excited to be directing Iron by Rona Munro and extremely happy to be bringing Elektra, a timeless tragedy from her homeland Greece, to Keswick, her ‘spiritual home’.
