Nick has also designed for Birmingham Rep, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Chester Gateway, Watford Palace Theatre, Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, Bristol Old Vic, Manchester Library Theatre, National Theatre and the Lyric, Hammersmith – to name just a few.
Maura graduated from East 15 Acting School in 2008. She then joined the technical team at Theatre by the Lake and after eight years is now pursuing a freelance career in sound and sound design.
This Christmas she returns to design The Emperor and the Nightingale after recently spending seven weeks in a very cold shed in the port of Dundee sound engineering Crude, a sight-specific piece for Grid Iron. Her past sound design credits include: Watch It, Sailor!, Dial M for Murder, The Rivals, Iron, The Shepherd’s Life, The Professor of Adventure, The 39 Steps, Abigail’s Party, Fallen Angels, Enlightenment, Two, Peter Pan, The Comedy of Errors, Seeing the Lights, The Winterling, Dancing at Lughnasa, Not About Heroes, Swallows and Amazons, She Stoops to Conquer, Rogue Herries, Old Herbaceous, Dry Rot, The History Boys, Knives in Hens, Hay Fever, Dumb Show, What the Butler Saw and Bus Stop.
Her work extends to sound designer on The 39 Steps (Gaiety Theatre, Ayr); The Hired Man (KAOS); associate sound designer on the acclaimed UK tour of The Bogus Woman, and as trainee sound assistant on the radio play Homefront for BBC Radio 4.
Peter Macqueen works as an actor, a fight director, a writer, director and garden designer and has been working with Theatre by the Lake in at least three of those capacities over the last decade – most recently as an associate artist with his touring theatre company PMac Productions.
He was one of the original members of the Society of British Fight Directors (now BADC), is on the Equity register and has directed fights in theatres all over the country, ranging from wildwood stoat mayhem in The Wind in the Willows, through several Macbeth/Macduff encounters, to the murderous onslaught in Deathtrap. He coached a half-blind Bernard Bresslaw to brandish a broadsword in Falstaff (Arts Theatre); a prop-phobic Susannah York to wield a knife in Lyric for a Tango (West End); a meticulous David Threlfall as Hamlet (Oxford Playhouse); and helped an assortment of dwarves, leopards and unicorns to victory in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s first production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Peter is also working on fights in Bold Girls in the Studio, will be directing Soaked, an incoming Laal Marra production, in the Studio for August, and is currently writing The Scrooge Diaries which will hopefully be ruining people’s Christmas in the Studio in December!

Sophie trained in technical theatre at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and subsequently worked in stage management, set design, marketing, general management, casting and production.
Sophie spent seven years as artistic co-ordinator at Theatre by the Lake and has worked with Ian and the creative team to cast more than 80 productions.
In addition to her work as associate casting director for TBTL, Sophie spent four years
as an associate agent at Esta Charkham Associates, nurturing and developing careers of both young and established actors. She also recently co-produced the critically acclaimed UK tour of The Bogus Woman with Theatre by the Lake and is now the producer at Watford Palace Theatre.
