Theatre by the Lake presents

Open Space

Sat 6 April | 7.30pm

The 2024 Open Space line-up has been announced!

We’re delighted (and very excited!) that Open Space, TBTL’s scratch night, is returning to our Studio on Saturday 6 April. As well as experiencing exciting new performance ideas and supporting local talent as artists are invited to perform their work-in-development in front of an audience, you’ll be invited to share your feedback in a relaxed and informal environment.

We’re so proud to be supporting new and emerging talent in our community and can’t wait for you to see the work of Cumbrian creatives coming to life in our theatre.

The pieces being presented on Saturday night, and the fab artists presenting them are…

The Heat of Stars – written and directed by Nina Berry and featuring Cumbrian actors Amy Foley and Gwyneth Evans.

Neive wants to focus on her mission to secure a future for humanity among the stars but the problem is her daughter is on a mission of her own – to unearth the truth of the world they left behind. Heat of Stars is a contemporary reimagining of the Tanabata story, where worlds collide in an epic tale of love, morality and stardust.

Threads – by classical musician Ursula Leveaux.

A theatrical performance piece to connect with people who aren’t necessarily concert goers. The piece explores the way music can be woven through life using personal experience, a bassoon and a loop pedal.

Keeping the Peace – written and performed by Sally Ann Staunton with music composed and performed by Damo Rose.

Keeping the Peace is a spoken word piece with live music accompaniment. Having found rhyme to be a way in which the performer can express herself, the piece looks at experiences of controlling relationships and the impact that this has had. The intention is to make others aware that they are not alone

Neverland (Tinker’s version) – by Leo Mercer and Tiiva.

Peter Pan plans to transform Neverland into a futuristic playground that destroys the island’s ecosystem. Can Tinker Bell uncover his ambitions and stop him in time?

An ecological re-imagining of Peter Pan, this is the story of Tinker (think Greta Thunberg meets Billie Eilish). When she drinks poison planted by Captain Hook and intended for Peter, she sacrifices herself wholly for him, and is prepared to die. Yet she doesn’t – the opposite in fact, when she wakes up, she feels wide awake.

As well as being an evening of creativity and entertainment, the audience for Open Space and their feedback really is vital future development of the work. So, if you’d like a sneak preview of the exciting work being created in our county, make sure to nab a ticket on our website before they’re gone!
