Marie - The Story of Marie Lloyd
This production ended on 21/10/2018
The poet, T.S. Eliot, described Marie Lloyd as: ‘The greatest music hall artist of all time.’ She was the first, great, female ‘stand-up’ comedian, the darling of the Victorian Music Halls. Featuring some of her best loved songs including, 'Don't Dilly Dally on the Way', 'Oh! Mr Porter', 'A Little of What you Fancy does you Good', 'The Boy I Love is Up in the Gallery'. Elizabeth Mansfield’s critically acclaimed performance got her an Olivier Award nomination and beautifully captures all the riotous fun of Lloyd’s irrepressible talent, as well as the hidden struggles of a truly remarkable woman.
The proceeds from this performance will be donated to Theatre by the Lake’s work with young people.
‘Mansfield is brilliant. Uproarious laughter, often tears…a celebration heart-warming in its humanity’
