Listen To What Others Have To Say

Theatre by the Lake's volunteers span the full age range. Here two of them describe the work they do and the pleasure it gives them.

Marten Hinz, student at Keswick School:

"There were many reasons why I wanted to be a volunteer at Theatre by the Lake. It is a fantastic place with good productions and I wanted to support it. A theatre in a town like Keswick is such a big treasure.
"I try to be on duty once a week, usually at weekends, but it can be less regular during exam times. I enjoy the social side of the work. I meet a lot of people – visitors to the theatre or other volunteers. It is very rewarding to help visitors but my favourite jobs are those when I have to sit in on a performance. If it's is a good production, this makes my day.”

Lucy Bestley, retired:

"I have been a volunteer since Theatre by the Lake opened in 1999 and was here on the very first day. I volunteered because I enjoy art and literature and thought that the theatre was good for the town.
"I work at the theatre once a week now and enjoy the social side of the work. I have made friends with lots of people who I would not otherwise have met. I enjoy selling programmes and coffee best because that means a lot of interaction with the customers.”
