//Tuning In//: a one-man tour-de-force exploring disability prejudice comes to Theatre by the Lake

//Tuning In//, a new co-production between Theatre by the Lake, Miles-Wildin and Ng and Graeae, comes to Keswick next month.

Meet Reagan, sitting at home covered in blood, trying to unravel the mystery of his disastrous first date. A restaurant disaster with a steak knife? A night club toilet, shard of broken glass? The only thread Reagan can hold onto is Cameron Flanagan, the lighthouse in a fog of neurosis. Cameron was Reagan’s date last night. If he can find what happened to Cameron, all will be revealed.

This witty tour de force explores the destructive nature of disability prejudice, the damage caused by trying to fit in, and the risk involved in being who you are. All performances of the show have creative captioning and creative integrated audio description.

//Tuning In// is directed by Nickie Miles-Wildin and written and performed by Adam Fenton, who was nominated for an Offie in 2022 for his lead performance in The Solid Life of Sugar Water (Orange Tree Theatre). He was also the winner of the Evening Standard Future Theatre Fund award for Acting 2021.

The show was originally developed by Theatre by the Lake as part of their digital SPARK programme in 2021, and supported by National Theatre’s Generate programme.

Liz Stevenson, Artistic Director of Theatre by the Lake, commented, “TBTL is committed to being an accessible and welcoming place for our entire community to visit, and we are dedicated to supporting new writing and working with deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists. We’re delighted to be partnering with Graeae and Miles-Wildin and Ng who are a force for change in theatre, placing Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists centre stage. Having supported its development in 2021, we’re thrilled to be co-producing //Tuning In//, which is about challenges our perceptions of what is ‘normal’.”

//Tuning In// will run from Wed 7 – Thu 15 June in Theatre by the Lake’s Studio . Book tickets here.
