Celebrate English Tourism Week with Theatre by the Lake!

Coordinated by Visit England and taking place from Friday 15 – Sunday 24 March, English Tourism Week is a celebration of the amazing country we live in.

English Tourism Week is an annual celebration of the tourism industry, highlighting its importance to local economies and promoting the innovation, quality and range of products and services on offer to encourage more domestic breaks.

This year’s campaign is using the strapline ‘supporting tourism, the heart of our community’ to celebrate the amazing people, places, businesses, attractions, experiences and destinations at the heart of England’s tourism sector.

Tourism is one of England’s largest and most valuable industries, supporting hundreds of thousands of small-to-medium sized businesses, employing 2.6 million people and, in 2022, generating £66 billion for the economy in domestic visitor spending.

What better way to experience the beauty of the Lake District and celebrate English culture than with a captivating performance at Theatre by the Lake? We have a stunning line-up of shows to choose from, from hilarious comedies to thought-provoking dramas. Here’s a taste of what’s on offer:

  • Feed your need for a killer musical? Little Shop of Horrors opens next week, with a hilarious and unforgettable story about a nerdy florist and his bloodthirsty plant.
  • Prefer a classic with a twist? Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey gets a fresh adaptation, perfect for fans of witty dialogue and coming-of-age adventures. (Coming in April!)
  • Yearning for some heartwarming nostalgia? Brassed Off is a poignant and funny story about a colliery band facing closure. (Coming in June!)
  • In the mood for a thrilling mystery? ️Get ready to be spooked by The Hound of the Baskervilles in a hilarious theatrical adaptation. (Coming in August!)

Visit England Director Andrew Stokes said:
