The Wizard of Oz Comes Home to Keswick This Christmas

This Christmas, Theatre by the Lake invites families to step into a magical world as it proudly presents The Wizard of Oz – a sparkling new adaptation of the beloved story, set right here in the heart of the Lakes.

From the pen of acclaimed writer Sonia Jalaly (Class Dismissed (CBBC), Supertato (CBeebies) and Jack & the Beanstalk (Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith)), based on the novel by L. Frank Baum, and directed by Sarah Punshon, this imaginative retelling follows Dorothy, not from Kansas, but from a Cumbrian cottage with dreams of London. When a wild storm whisks her to Oz, Dorothy must journey down the yellow brick road with Toto, meeting flying monkeys, wicked witches, and a few familiar friends – including a brave lion, a big-hearted tinwoman, and a super-smart scarecrow.

Packed with original pop songs, high-energy fun, and plenty of heart, The Wizard of Oz is a festive adventure for everyone aged 6+, and the perfect way to make magical family memories this Christmas.

Liz Stevenson, Artistic Director at Theatre by the Lake, said: “We’re delivering a high-energy, visually spectacular Christmas show that audiences won’t forget. With original music, laugh-out-loud moments, and a strong local twist, this Wizard of Oz is designed to delight audiences of all ages.”
