Company 25: Inspiring the Next Generation of Cumbrian Theatremakers 

We believe in the power of theatre to transform, connect, and inspire, and nowhere is that more evident than in the journey of Company 25, our vibrant young company for 14–18-year-olds from across Cumbria.  

Meeting weekly at Theatre by the Lake, the group explores every corner of the creative process, from producing and performance to marketing, music, and movement, giving them applicable skills for careers in theatre, the arts, and beyond. 

Our first cohort joined as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations and worked with leading theatre professionals to tell our story – past, present and future – through a series of original performances. 

Each term includes a masterclass weekend and tickets to a Theatre by the Lake production, helping them deepen their understanding of the craft. We also facilitate trips to other theatres and productions, to ensure the group experience a variety of settings, venues, and performances to help expand their knowledge and understanding. 

The final performance of our first year Company members took place in October 2025 with a second cohort joining in January 2026.  

Lasting Impact 

The feedback from the young participants themselves, their parents, and even local drama teachers has been phenomenal and a valuable reminder of how we can open opening doors to new opportunities, sparking creativity, and nurturing confidence in young people across Cumbria.
