Jenn Butteworth

Jenn Butterworth is an award-winning Scottish guitarist, singer and songwriter known for her virtuosic playing, infectious energy and distinctive approach to traditional music. Equally at home on intimate stages and major festival platforms, Jenn brings together the drive of Scottish trad, the freedom of contemporary folk and her own finely crafted songwriting. A sought-after collaborator and performer, she has worked across the international folk and traditional music scene while developing a sound that is unmistakably her own; dynamic, joyful and deeply rooted in Scotland’s musical heritage.

Based in Glasgow, Scotland, Jenn is a central figure in the thriving Scottish folk music scene. She is a key member of the award-winning folk powerhouse Kinnaris Quintet and performs regularly in duos with Laura-Beth Salter and Will Pound. Her versatility has seen her contribute to an impressive array of projects, including performances with Fairport Convention, Fiddlers’ Bid, Liz Carroll, Malin Lewis, Ross Ainslie & Ali Hutton, Treacherous Orchestra and Bella Hardy.

She was awarded Musician of the Year at the 2019 Scots Trad Music Awards, nominated for the same title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and more
recently was named ‘Best Female Vocalist of the Year’ at the Ireland Tonight Radio Music Awards. She has contributed to numerous celebrated albums, including BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning album ‘Songs of Separation’, and Kinnaris Q’s Free One and This Too. Her self-produced debut solo album ‘Her By Design’ was released to widespread critical acclaim in 2025, entering both the Official UK Album Download Charts and the Official Folk Charts, and winning the prestigious Annual Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics’ Award).
