Yatter: Spoken Word Night 2026

Tuesday 20 October | 7:30pm

A night of stories, poems, spoken word and unexpected moments.

Hosted by storyteller and performer Jessie McMeekin

Yatter is TBTL’s spoken word night, bringing together writers, performers, storytellers and audiences for an evening that celebrates local voices, new ideas and the joy of sharing words out loud.

Hosted by storyteller Jessie McMeekin, the evening features a handful of specially invited guest performers alongside a selection of open mic contributors.

Whether you’re a seasoned performer, a first-time reader or just someone who enjoys hearing great stories and fresh voices, Yatter offers a welcoming space to come together and celebrate creativity from across Cumbria.

Fancy taking part?

We’re always keen to hear from poets, storytellers, writers, performers and anyone with words they’d like to share.

There are two ways to take part:

Apply in advance
A limited number of open mic spots can be booked ahead of time. To express your interest, email Jessie at JessieStorytelling@outlook.com with a little information about yourself and what you’d like to perform.

Sign up on the night
A small number of open mic slots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important: Anyone hoping to perform, whether booked in advance or hoping to sign up on the night, should arrive at 7pm to meet Jessie and discuss the running order before the event begins.

Not performing?

Come along anyway! Some of the best moments at Yatter happen when local people gather to listen, discover new voices and cheer each other on. From established performers to first-time readers to eager listeners, every contribution helps create an evening that belongs to the community.

No two Yatters are the same. Come curious and see where the night takes you.
